Scott Simon needs to control his cell phone. It simply won’t behave. I mean all he did was slip it in his pocket. That’s it. Well, and apparently discuss a premeditated murder in progress with his buddy. The problem? His phone did the old 911 butt dial thing. Oops.

But, IMO he got what he deserved…LEOs arriving to protect and serve.

I read about an other incident like this, a robbery with all the details. The story is so funny. I laughed until I cried at how stupid criminals are. Cops caught them with the goods while the cell phone in the guys pocket was still connected to the 9-1-1 operator. The LEOs had to tell them how they knew about the robbery. Priceless.

I hate to sound dense, but how can being slipped into a pocket make a phone dial 911? Enlighten me, please?

Many smart phones have a single button on the dial pad that dials 911. If you hit it by mistake–as in slipping your phone into your pocket—it will dial the number. Same thing can happen to those who have speed dial numbers that require pressing only one button to dial. I have a friend who does it all the time.
