Serial Killing for Ratings?

13 Aug

Just when you think you’ve heard everything here comes a story from Brazil. It seems that police have accused state legislator Wallace Souza of drug trafficking and contracting the murder of at least five people who apparently worked for a rival trafficker. Yawn. Read this before. Glad they’re killing each other and not some innocent citizen.

Souza,W

But this one gets weird.

Souza is also the host of a TV crime show called Canal Livre. Police believe that in order to prove his contention that Brazil’s Amazon area is a hotbed of violent crime and to boost the ratings of his show, Souza ordered the murders. Is this a case of killing two birds with a single stone, or creating a self-fulfilling prophesy, or maybe serial killing for fun and profit?

Would you believe this if you read it in a novel?

    Believe it?
Yeah, as a matter of fact, I would.
In Brazil, weird stuff like this happens all the time.
This character, for example, lives in Manaus.
Last year, the federal cops busted more than 100 local cops in that city for crimes ranging from extortion to murder.
Kind of makes you wonder who was still around to arrest this perp.

I guess I would believe it too. Brazil isn’t the only place these things happen. It’s getting pretty bad in the good ole USA.

I believe it. My ex-hubby worked with a guy who tried to sell DoD secrets to the Russians so he could get out of debt. Why did he want to get out of debt? Because he wanted a higher security clearance.

Murdering more people to prove that murder is on the rise is just one, macabre, step up from that.
